What’s Worth It?

Laura and GeorgeThe moments, few and far between.  Conversation has mostly stopped, he nods a lot, single-minded thoughts turn to a cookie.

It wasn’t too long ago when I was the one that nodded for conversation and had single-minded thoughts of cookies.

Now, busy with time spent filled with tending to basic daily needs.

Activities that used to excite and thrill now dull after a few minutes.

But moments, the ones I cherish in these days are the flash of connection and the laugh that sounds like him.

I gather them up like treasures and keep them close.

Knowing if not guarded, they will be lost in the repetition that has become the norm.

These treasures remind me of the man Gpa used to be, is still in there somewhere.

And that’s what makes it worth it.

The love.

I’d click ‘like’ again and again if it rained stars on this post.
You have hit the nail so simply and so accurately on the head.

Thank you so much for your comment!
I have been missing Gpa as he was.

I had one of those reality checks the other day of how my mother is now, and I just wanted to weep and weep. It was after looking at a photograph of her from the 70s.
We are lucky to love them, but sometimes it’s hard.
